The Libyan Advanced Center for Chemical Analysis participated in the Third International Conference on Food and Nutrition, held in Brak Al-Shati during October 15–16, 2025, with a research paper aimed at assessing the safety of certain agricultural products available in Libyan markets, as part of the Center’s role in monitoring contaminants that may affect consumer health. The Center was represented at the conference by Ms. Mahasen Al-Khabbat, Director of Research Affairs. The study focused on estimating nitrate and nitrite concentrations in watermelon and melon samples collected from Libyan markets. The results showed that some watermelon samples exceeded the permissible nitrate limits according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards, indicating improper agricultural practices. The study recommended strengthening control programs for agricultural products, rationalizing the use of nitrogen fertilizers, and raising awareness among farmers and consumers to protect public health.
